Last week, town and school staff presented the budgets for Falmouth's next fiscal year. While property taxes will increase, the rise will be less than recent years. Slowing the steeply rising tax rate was a request from the Town Council this year and a concern for many Falmouth taxpayers.

As always, you can email me story tips and community events, photos and announcements for the chance to be included in the newsletter.  I look forward to hearing from you!

In this week's newsletter: Falmouth's devoted hockey fan; kayak rental lottery; and diving deep into the "Anxious Generation."

(P.S. We've launched a brand new ePaper product for our Falmouth Now readers! Enjoy your local news in a digital newspaper format. Find it at the bottom of today's newsletter).

Thanks for reading,

KAYAK RACK RENTAL LOTTERY

In an effort to increase water access to residents, new kayak racks were installed at Falmouth Town Landing in 2024 and are available to residents for seasonal rental. The storage racks may be used for personal kayaks only (maximum length 16 feet). Due to space constraints at Town Landing, there are 12 racks that will be allocated via an annual lottery.

The lottery for the 2025 season will take place on April 30, at 11 a.m. at Town Hall Council Chambers and is open to the public. Applications will be available on April 1, and must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 24. Applications will be available at the Police Department, Falmouth Town Hall or downloadable here

Applicants must be Falmouth residents. Only two applicants per household may apply. No more than one rack will be awarded per household. Storage space is non-transferable. The cost is $50 per season (May 15-Oct. 15). You need not be present at the public lottery to secure a space. Those selected will be notified and payment must be received at the Town Clerk’s Office within 15 days of selection, or the storage space will be forfeited. Renters are responsible for securing and locking their watercraft. The town of Falmouth accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal watercraft.

THINGS TO DO

"The Anxious Generation": A Deep Dive into the Ideas of the Book is a three-part book discussion hosted by Falmouth Memorial Library and partnering regional libraries. Dr. Joseph Moldover, a developmental neuropsychologist, will join in-depth Zoom discussion of the New York Times Bestselling book that explores the links between technology use and the rise in mental illness in teens and young adults. Register for the discussions on April 3, 10 and 17 at 6 p.m. here

The next Coffee with Councilors will be held virtually on April 10 from noon-1 p.m. with Councilors Tommy Johnson and Alisa Morton. This informal Zoom gathering has no set agenda and is an opportunity to discuss whatever is on residents' minds. They hope to see you there!

The Falmouth 4-miler is here! On April 5 at 9 a.m., runners will take off from Falmouth Community Park on a flat and fast out-and-back 4-mile road race. The race is a fundraiser for the Falmouth High School XC and track teams. Register for the race here.
