Members of the Lawrence football team run under a sunset prior to the start of Friday's game against Skowhegan in Skowhegan. Anna Chadwick/Morning Sentinel |
Most high school football players wouldn't last an hour in the losing streaks Edward Little and Madison just endured.
If you want to know who truly loves football, take a look the players and coaches who keep coming back despite a consistent lack of success. After a brutal season, in terms of wins and losses, they spend the offseason working to improve and find ways to help their team be better than it was the year before. They suffer defeat after defeat, with many blowouts in between, and love every minute of the season. These are the undeterred and the dedicated.
So a standing ovation to the Red Eddies for winning their first game since Sept. 16, 2022, and ending a 17-game losing streak last week; and to Madison for ending its 18-game skid with its first victory since Sept. 2, 2022.
Read more about these two teams, as well as the end of the state's longest active win streak in this week's Varsity Maine football notebook.
Also check out the football honor roll and the video highlights from Week 3.
