Happy Monday, Skowhegan!
As the days grow crisper, one of my favorite things to do is settle into a comfortable place indoors and engross myself in a book. Having a drink of choice on hand can add to the experience, too.
Those of you who feel the same way should check out Unwined on Thursday, Oct. 16, when the wine bar will hold a fundraiser for the Skowhegan Free Public Library's autumn book drive. There'll be a brand-new drink special, too.
On that note, the Biergarten will host an Oktoberfest celebration along the river on Saturday, Oct. 11. You can hear live music while trying your hand (and arm) at a stein hold. Learn more about both gatherings below.
As always, I encourage you to email me with submissions about upcoming events or other community contributions to be included in this newsletter.
Thank you for reading,
— Alex Lear

Oct. 1, 1975: "Jason Bessey, son of Mrs. Trudy Bessey of Skowhegan, was too busy painting his picture to bother with the photographer, however his young contemporary Than (Sam) Howes could not resist just one look. Sam is the son of Rebecca
Howes."
