February 04, 2026

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone's been enjoying (or at least successfully dealing with) the snow that has accumulated in southern Maine the past few weeks.

I took the opportunity to go skiing for the first time in years. While I was an avid skier in high school, as I grew older and life grew busier, I fell out of the habit, last hitting the slopes in early 2022.

However, after covering Pleasant Mountain Ski Resort for its holiday celebration in 2024, I began to feel the urge to ski once more. Although the 2025 season ended up passing me by, I was determined to hit the slopes once again by the time 2026 rolled around.

Last Saturday, I trekked to Bridgton with my long-unused skis and poles, as well as an equipment bag that I was initially unable to open after not having done so for four years. Despite initial worries that I would fall down on the first slope I tried, I found that I still had the muscle memory within me, and it felt like I had only been away from the slopes for a few days rather than years.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Pleasant Mountain if you live in or are traveling through the Lakes Region. For a $91 day pass, you can enjoy thrilling slopes and gorgeous views of the White Mountains. Personally, I think I'm going to be checking it out some more before the winter's out.

Also in this week's newsletter: Raymond farm dispute, veterans cross-country skiing, Casco library updates, and more.
