Dear friends,

To think — people travel from miles away just to glimpse what we wake up to each morning. The crunch of leaves underfoot, the crispness in the air, and the glow of the sun filtering through canopies of vibrant color.

My running list of stories this month includes some autumnal related features; a series on Bethel's water and wastewater; and a Q and A series on area religious congregations. As always, please email me if you have something I should add to my list.

I'll be here — basking in the fall beauty of Western Maine

In today's newsletter: Bethel's Bob Chadbourne who leaves behind a long logging legacy; Archivist Rhonda Chadwick is coming to Woodstock; and the jeeps have arrived in Bethel.

Thanks for reading,

LOCAL NEWS

Residents of Albany Township vented at a community forum while officials listened and considered the next steps to possibly becoming incorporated as a town.

With two solar farms in place and two more in the pipeline, Andover residents are challenging more solar expansion in Town.

Bethel's Bob Chadbourne, who died Sept. 17, carried on 11 generations of logging legacy. He built a lasting legacy of his own — one marked by a deep commitment to sustainable forestry practices and generous access to locals for hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.

A Crooked River property owner has been ordered to pay Norway for code violations at his Airbnb cabin. He was cited for a half dozen violations.

Bill Pierce of "Snapshots in Time," and a Rangeley Highlander contributor, publishes historic stories. This one will raise the hair on your arms. It's about a North Woods poacher from New Brunswick. It's hunting season and Halloween is approaching. Two reasons to read this tale from 1895.

“The lack of services, I didn’t mind—it harkens back to a simpler time. But when you're asked to pay inordinately for that simpler time…”
