Growing up in Kennebunk, Halloween on Summer Street was always a big deal. Summer Street was the place to be, with the ornate, looming homes decked out in spooky decorations — sometimes, you might have even gotten the elusive king-sized candy bar.

When I was a kid, Summer Street was always closed off to traffic on Halloween, but last year, Kennebunk decided to open the street to traffic. This year, the street will be open again, with a heavy police presence to ensure trick-or-treaters' safety. But don't worry, there is still plenty of Halloween fun to be had!

In this week's newsletter: Read about Halloween on Summer Street, an RSU 21 board member resigning, and the inspiring story of a local cancer survivor.

As always, feel free to email me with story ideas and photos!

Thanks for reading,

Step back in spooky time and join our Kennebunkport “coven” for a special Wicked Witches Tea Party at the haunted schoolhouse at 125 North St. in Kennebunkport. Melanie from Dragon Star will brew up a special witches’ blend, or there is Earl Grey or chamomile, for those less adventurous.

Enjoy spooky sandwiches and Halloween-themed treats as story teller extraordinaire Diane Lent shares spine-chilling ghost stories. The scariest part? They’re all true. Costumes are encouraged, but not required, and all proceeds will go to The Community Gourmet, a nonprofit that helps those experiencing food insecurity in the Kennebunks. Read more here.
