Covering the communities of Biddeford, Saco and Old Orchard Beach

Sponsored by

As someone who writes for a living, it should come as no surprise that I also love to read.

I always have. It started with fiction as a young kid (I went through a very long Harry Potter phase), and now, I'm usually devouring whatever new thriller hits the shelves.

So when I found out that two new bookstores are coming to Biddeford and Saco this summer, I was thrilled! Sherman's is opening a location in Saco, while local Biddeford Book Co. will open in Biddeford.

In this week's newsletter: Read about the upcoming bookstore openings, a Habitat for Humanity home dedication in Saco, and a Biddeford High School monarch pledge.

(P.S. We've launched a brand new ePaper product for our Biddeford-Saco Now readers! Enjoy your local news in a digital newspaper format. Find it at the bottom of today's newsletter).

As always, feel free to email me with story ideas and photos!

Thanks for reading,

- Sydney Richelieu

THINGS TO DO

Turn your pet into a rock star at a Paint Your Pet workshop hosted by The Creative Soul in Kennebunk on Thursday, April 3, at 5:30 p.m. The step-by-step painting process will ensure that even those with no painting experience will go home with a unique portrait of their beloved pet. The workshop is perfect for animal lovers and art enthusiasts alike!

Experience an evening of storytelling at the first-ever Biddeford Mini Film Festival on Friday, April 4, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Presented by Art of Biddeford, the festival will take place at City Theater in downtown Biddeford, and will feature documentaries focused on unique experiences in Maine.

If you prefer live music, head to Elements in downtown Biddeford on Friday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m. for an evening of live funk and soul with Bandwich. Grab your friends, grab a brew, and enjoy the tunes!

Do you rent in Biddeford or Saco? Head to McArthur Library in Biddeford on Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. for Tenants Speak, an event hosted by the Twin City Tenants' Alliance. Hear community members and area-experts speak, and learn about things that can be done on the municipal level to protect tenants against rising costs and displacement.
