February 02, 2026

Now that it's finally starting to feel like fall, we're getting in the Halloween spirit. It's time for pumpkins, horror flicks and spooky stories.

And let's be honest, it's a nice distraction from election season. But we've got your back there, too, with more previews for your local races.

There are plenty of ghost stories in the Midcoast; what's your favorite?

Students in Bath are taking what's probably the most practical approach to learning the trades. They recently hit the halfway point on a project aimed at building a house, which will be put on the market by the Bath Rotary Club. They had a tools ceremony recently, getting the equipment that will help them bring the project to the finish line.

Columnist David Treadwell wrote about his recent trip to watch the New England Patriots. Sadly, he witnessed a loss, but the story left me nostalgic about my last trip to Gillette Stadium more than a decade ago. I really need to get back down there some day soon.

THE WAY IT WAS IN THE MIDCOAST

Oct 9, 1978: On this day, The Times Record ran a feature about the president of the Flat Earth Society. Somehow, he claims, Columbus proved that.

That nonsense is still kicking around today. Thanks to the internet, it's more prevalent (or at least more vocal) than ever. Still just as dumb.
