Good morning. It's Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024. Here's what you need to know to get your day started.

Three years after many Portland homeowners saw a big jump in their property taxes, the city is again beginning a revaluation process that could mean another increase for some – though it could be less extreme than in 2021. Other southern Maine communities are also revaluating properties. In South Portland and Brunswick, recent property revaluations have sparked outrage.

The Brunswick Executive Airport chemical spill sent thousands of gallons of toxic firefighting foam down the sewer drains bound for the Androscoggin River, which has only recently begun to rewrite its century-long history of industrial pollution. "We will be dealing with the fallout of this for generations to come," says Ed Friedman, chairman of Friends of Merrymeeting Bay.

A Ukrainian man is suing a Livermore couple, saying they forced him to work on their home without pay for about 15 months, seized more than $2,100 in stipends from Catholic Charities, and kept his dog after kicking him out of their home.
