Good morning,
A double threat weekend is coming your way.
Valentine's Day is Saturday. It's fitting that we just published a story of young love that started back in 1907.
Eighty love letters were recently discovered beneath the attic floor of an old farmhouse and this fascinating collection provides a window to West Paris' community history, with Advertiser Democrat newspaper clippings and old town and farm reports helping to tell the story.
Can you imagine what the world was like for courting teenagers 120 years ago?
And the 16th Annual Norway Snowshoe Festival starts Friday evening - with the Mellie Dunham Contra Dane & Community Supper at the Norway Grange. The festival kicks off 10 a.m. Saturday at the Roberts Farm Preserve with snowshoe races, games, walks, music, beer and great food (including chili contest).
Inside or outside, happy Valentine's Day and happy (snowshoe) trails.
Thanks for reading,
Nicole Carter |

NSB Contributes $3,000 to Special Documentary |
|
Norway Savings Bank is thrilled to announce a $3,000 contribution to support a collaboration between one of Maine’s most acclaimed documentary filmmaking companies, Lone Wolf Media in South Portland, and the Union of Maine Visual Artists (UMVA). UMVA advocates for Maine art and artists building camaraderie and promoting the common good. The documentary is entitled Away From It All: Maine’s Place in American Art History. The film tells the story of Maine’s influence on American art history from 1850 to present day. It will travel throughout the state documenting the stories of artists such as Thomas Cole, Frederick Church, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe, Rockwell Kent, and Andrew Wyeth while showing off Maine’s inherent beauty. Maine inspired and impacted scores of famous artists and transformed the American art scene in the process. Learn more about the project, including how teachers and young people around Maine will be able to access special, helpful materials related to the film and its purpose. |
