Greetings everyone,
I was excited to see on March 30 the first robin in my yard where I live in Gorham. Its return raises a lot of questions that I wish to ask. Like, where did you spend the winter? How long was your flight back? Where are you making your nest for this season? What troubles did you survive and endure to make it back? How old are you?
If only robins could talk or I could discern their language, their tale would generate so much interest and be so telling. Maybe this robin's wish is not to share anything personal. But, I can't even guess its story. Surely, robins don't worry what tomorrow will bring or what foods will be available as their life is based on today. Its season here will pass speedily and this one without benefit of any compass or GPS will somehow recognize the day to wing away and to what location, fleeing harsh weather. But, for now, it is home.
In this week's newsletter: High school construction; Gorham rejects buying property; annual button show and more.

Westbrook Historical Society says take a stroll through an old cemetery off the beaten path. "Located on a hill off Church Street, the Saccarappa Cemetery is a historic burial ground in Westbrook dating back to the early 18th century," a society posting online says. "It is more than just a resting place for early settlers and pioneers, it is a reminder of Westbrook's rich heritage and the many individuals who played a role in shaping it. Families buried in the cemetery are those of Babb, Conant, Brackett, Haskell, Knight, and Quinby. Sadly, vandalism has taken its toll on many of the monuments." With warm temperatures arriving soon, take a walk through time.
